Description
An outstanding antique Austro-Hungarian necklace from the late 19th Century decorated with a striking combination of red and green flat cut garnets, totalling over 23ct and shimmering white mabe pearls which run across the length and down three long droppers.
The Austro-Hungarian Empire ruled from 1867 to 1918 and was one of the largest western empires in the world. Their jewellery was celebrated for its elaborate and grand design that took inspiration from 16th century Renaissance pieces, incorporating colourful gemstones into exquisitely detailed metal bases, creating distinct statement pieces that were like no other created during that time.
Each link is fashioned in silver gilt and is beautifully detailed with coiled rope and curled motifs wrapping around each stone, leading to a bejewelled box clasp at the end.
An exquisite piece of history which has been beautifully preserved over the centuries and is accompanied by its original box, lined with cream velvet and silk interior and a brown leatherette exterior.
