Description
A grand antique Edwardian Albert chain from the early 1900s made up of solid 9ct gold curb links that have a lovely smoothness and strong rosy hue, each stamped 375/ 9ct.
Albert chains were popularised and named after Prince Albert, Queen Victorias consort in the 19thCentury and were traditionally worn by gentlemen to secure a pocket watch to the buttonhole of a waistcoat. Today, they are also worn as stylish necklaces; a custom that was started by the wives of soldiers during the first world war who wore the chains as a keepsake in the hope theyd return home safely.
It’s a strong, weighty chain and complete with its original clasps with faded makers marks and a detachable T-Bar bearing a Birmingham hallmark which has been added over time.
