Description

A silky antique Edwardian Albert chain, consisting of solid gold curb links, two claw clasps and a T-bar, fitted with a small extension of chain at the end that would traditionally hold a medallion. The gold has developed a lovely rosy-gold patina with age and each part is stamped 375/ 9ct.

Albert chains were named after Prince Albert, Queen Victorias consort and were traditionally worn by gentlemen to secure a pocket watch to the buttonhole of a waistcoat. Today, they are also worn as stylish necklaces; a custom that was started by the wives of soldiers during the First World War who wore the chains as a keepsake in the hope theyd return home safely.

This is a fine Edwardian Albert chain, dating to the early 20th Century and is complete with Birmingham hallmarks and the makers mark MPG along the T-bar.

We recommend you insure for 1,670. We can provide a written Valuation on completion of the sale.
