Description
A colourful antique Edwardian Suffragette pendant hallmarked Birmingham, 1908. Its fashioned in 9ct gold and has a wonderful open-work design with overlapping loops decorated with white seed pearls, violet-pink almandine garnets and a central green peridot with a second hanging from the bottom.
Jewellery displaying the colours green, violet and white were often worn in support of the Womens Social and Political Union (WSPU) which was at the forefront of the UK suffrage movement in the early 1900s. They adopted these three colours to highlight their key virtues: Violet for Royalty, White for Purity and Green for Hope, and also formed the phrase Give Women Votes!
Its in excellent condition and complete with hallmarks at the back and a new 9ct gold chain to display it on.
