Description
A grand antique Victorian Albert chain from the late 19thCentury made up of interlocking fetter links and smaller cable links all crafted in 9ct gold with a lovely patina and muted, yellow gold tone.
Albert chains were popularised and named after Prince Albert, Queen Victorias consort in the 19thCentury and were traditionally worn by gentlemen to secure a pocket watch to the buttonhole of a waistcoat. Today, they are also worn as stylish necklaces; a custom that was started by the wives of soldiers during the first world war who wore the chains as a keepsake in the hope theyd return home safely.
Its a wonderful design and complete with the classic T-bar and claw clasps so that it can be worn as a traditional watch chain or as a necklace.
