Description
A classic antique Victorian Albert chain from the late 19thCentury made up of solid 9ct gold paper clip links which have developed a lovely patina and rosy hue with age.
Albert chains were popularised and named after Queen Victorias consort, Prince Albert in the 19thCentury and were traditionally used by gentlemen to secure a pocket watch to the buttonhole of a waistcoat. Today, they are also worn as stylish necklaces; a custom that was started by the wives of soldiers during the first world war who wore the chains as a keepsake in the hope theyd return home safely.
Its complete with double claw clasps and a T-bar whichbear 375/ 9ct stamps and the makers initials. Its a solid, weighty chain and looks wonderful worn as a traditional Albert or as a necklace.
