This wonderful Victorian graduating ball necklace is Circa 1880.
The balls are set in Gold Gilt and graduate in size all round the necklace.
The Gold Gilt balls are set on a Pinchbeck chain.
Pinchbeck was invented in the 18th century.
Since Gold was only sold in 18ct quality at that time, the development of Pinchbeck allowed people to buy the gold effect” jewellery on a budget.
The balls slide up and down the chain to the original snapper barrel clasp, which closes securely.
This is a beautiful and unique necklace that looks amazing worn.
It is steeped in history from the Victorian era.
It weighs 16.2 grams.
The necklace measures 14 inches.
In excellent condition all round.
