Description
An exquisite pair of Antique Victorian drop earrings from the mid 19th Century featuring two detailed, high relief Cameos carved from Bullmouth Shell of a Bacchante with vine leaves woven into her hair.
Roman style Cameos were highly sought after in the 19th century during the ‘Grand Tour’ days when tourists developed a fascination with destinations such as Rome. They often depicted Goddesses and characters from mythology and became a favourite of Queen Victoria also.
The Cameos are set in 18ct Yellow Gold with a wonderful, twisted frame and an icicle shaped dropper hanging below. They look wonderful dangling from each ear and have remained in pristine condition.
