Description

A luxurious antique Victorian guard chain made up of chunky cable links fashioned in 9ct gold. Each link is lovely and smooth with a muted golden-bronze tone and faceted workmanship that glitters beautifully as it catches the light.

Guard chains were at the height of popularity in the 18th & 19th Century. Both fashionable and practical, they were deliberately long enough to be tucked into a belt and the clasp was usually adorned with a pocket watch, lorgnette or muff.

Its rare to find a guard chain of this width and it has a good length, measuring 56 inches so it can be worn as one long chain or looped twice around the neck to make two festoons of gold.
