Antique Victorian Sardonyx Poison Locket Ring

Description

An exquisite antique Victorian poison ring from the mid-1800s featuring a locket secretly concealed behind the face, topped with a pale sky-blue sardonyx seal.

In the Middle Ages Poison rings were a secret weapon used to deviously slip poison into an unsuspecting enemys drink by opening the hinge of the ring when pouring. Though the style has a grim and nefarious past, the compartments were later re-purposed and allowed for other things to be added, such as perfume, or a small photograph or lock of hair belonging to a secret lover.

The ring is all 18ct gold with detailed foliate engraving around the locket and down large shoulder panels which are topped with forget me nots, representing everlasting love and remembrance.

Its a remarkable antique treasure, in excellent condition and complete with a small window within which can hold a small photograph, lock of hair.
