Description
An exquisite antique brooch from the mid-Victorian era (Circa 1860) depicting a Scottish dirk dagger. The detailed Celtic metalwork is crafted in silver and has been inlaid with Scottish carnelian and jasper, polished and cut to fit the brooches distinct shape.
Scottish jewellery grew in popularity in the mid-1800s and was a personal favourite of Queen Victorias who influenced the trend across Britain. A Dirk is a long form of dagger and was usually worn as a ceremonial weapon by an officer as a symbol of honour.
Its a wonderful piece of history, in excellent condition and highly collectable.
