Description

This large magnificent antique Victorian Scottish Thistle Brooch is Circa 1880.

Scottish jewellery was made popular by Queen Victoria as it became a souvenir of her frequent trips to Scotland and her Scottish Castle Balmoral from the mid 1800s.

The beautiful brooch is adorned with a large 50ct violet Paste in the centre, surrounded by four smaller Paste Stones.

Paste is a transparent flint glass that simulates the fire and brilliance of gemstones. Violet Pastes sparkle just like Amethysts which have adorned regal jewellery all around the world, from ancient Egypt to the British crown jewels.

The brooch is set in Base Metal which is engraved with detailed Scottish Thistles.

The Thistle is the national flower of Scotland and has been a symbol of strength, protection and unity within the country throughout history.

The brooch is fitted with a sturdy pin and stamped Made in GT Britain on the reverse.

This is a highly collectable Scottish piece that looks beautiful when worn!

Weighs 43.1 grams.

Measures 65mm across x 65mm down.

Largest Paste measures 27mm across x 27mm down.
