This genuine antique Victorian 18ct Gold brooch boasts a detailed Micro-Mosaic of St. Peters square in the centre.
St. Peters square is home to St. Peters Basilica, a renowned Roman Renaissance church in the heart of Vatican City. The Pope presides at a number of services here throughout the year with audiences of up to 80,000 people gathering within the square.
The detailed Micro-Mosaic scene is beautifully set, all hand crafted in 1860.
Micro Mosaic’s are a special form of Mosaic that uses unusually small pieces of glass (tesserae), or in later Italian pieces an enamel-like material, to make small figurative images.
The Mosaic is set in a beautiful emerald green Malachite gallery and bordered in 18ct Yellow Gold.
Malachites means “mallow-green stone, the mineral was given this name due to its resemblance to the leaves of the Mallow plant.
The Malachite does have a small hair line fault but this is minimal wear for an item of this age.
Purchased in London and steeped in Victorian history, Circa 1860.
Looks fabulous when worn, a great talking piece.
